Behind the doors

Two pictures, the one story. People on the outside typically only see one side of that story. They see Naomi (our eldest) and me riding our scooters, kicking the ball, running around the shopping centre… basically; just having fun. They could see us and think, “Stef has this parenting thing all sorted.”

But the reality of our situation is that I have slept in her room every night for the last month. My swag feels like it’s a permanent fixture. It’s not something I have told anybody about, but it is definitely my reality. I think about it a lot….. It works for now with having baby Banjo in the house – he is non-sleeper; room buddies with Tanya. Tanya and I are OK with all of it because we feel like we have a strategy, to once again get back into the same room. We’ll be patient with a graduated approach and know we won’t be sleeping in our kids’ rooms when they are 15!

It does remind me of something else…… Being a financial planner I have been lucky to most often see the full picture. I see the beautiful home and (often) the large debt. The car and the car repayments. I have not met many people that seem to have their finances all figured out – Often I feel the people that tend to be most zen with their current position have some sort of plan….. they feel like they haven’t got it figured out but are getting closer every day…… they are willing to be patient and have learnt that nobody really has it all figured out…
